Influences on his Vocation

I remember Fr. John Caulfield at BC High, where I got my Jesuit vocation. I also remember Fr. Frederick Berigan and a scholastic, Mr. John Galvin.

Studying Astronomy at Georgetown

In 1947 I went to Georgetown to study astronomy. And it was there that I got my PhD in astronomy in 1951.

Dealing with the Cold

Yes, it was often very chilly and even downright cold, but that is often an astronomer's daily task. But you get lost in the splendors of the sky and get used to the cold.

Choice of Astronomy

I chose astronomy, because I think it was a great help for the work of the Church and especially in the modern day... Year later, receiving the Pro Pontifice et Ecclesia award from Pope John Paul II was thrilling and more than I deserved.

Divine Providence

Your question-if I have sensed God's guiding hand-is very clear. Answering it is another question. Yes. In many ways and at many times, I have sensed God's guiding hand.
