On his public lectures on seismology

I didn't find the public lectures burdensome. I enjoyed doing them. The lectures were well received by the general public. Also, the graduate students at the Observatory found them very helpful. I drew on what I knew of physics and math. The people there were quite attentive.

On his work in seismology

The important part of my work involved the Worldwide Standardized Seismic Network over the Eastern seacoast of the United States. And there were five or six Weston Observatory stations involved. The work required changing the records at approximately the same time each twenty-four hours; it was demanding but rewarding.
